Underrated Movies?

Post by Prod1gy » Fri Jun 04, 2010 1:00 pm

So I have watched a lot of movies, and it seems like the more you watch, the more mainstream movies get way overrated. For example, the Academy Awards nominations are usually decent movies, by in no means the best of the year. (Just on a side note, Emily Blunt deserved at least a nod for the Young Victoria).

Hence, I'm just curious about what movies you guys/girls feel are underrated. I'm fairly new to this forum, so I don't know about posters quality, but criticism of people's choices is encouraged, but please by respectful and civil. Everyone has different taste in movies. Also, try to not give away any spoilers.

My first choice is 'Frailty (2001)' - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0264616/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - :
Image
A man confesses to an FBI agent his family's story of how his religious fanatic father's visions lead to a series of murders to destroy supposed "demons."
I thought the plot of this movie was amazing, and the twists and turns were unexpected and delivered perfectly. Also, I thought Bill Paxton and Matthew McConaughey did an awesome job acting. For the record, I really dislike a lot of movies Matthew McConaughey has done.

More to come. Curious to see what you guys come up with!
A little respect and kindness can go a long way.

Yeah, I really liked it. Though that movie and my next choice make this thread not so much "underrated films" but more like, good movies not seen by a lot of people. They both have fairly high ratings and were moderately successful, but don't get thought of a lot.

'Unbreakable (2000)': http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0217869/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A suspense thriller with supernatural overtones that revolves around a man who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident.
Great Character development and acting. This is a great movie.

Another, sorry to double post, but this just hit me like a lightning bolt.

'Appaloosa (2008)': http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800308/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Two friends hired to police a small town that is suffering under the rule of a rancher find their job complicated by the arrival of a young widow.
This is probably the best western produced in decades. Traditional and a true western. Great acting (though I hate Zellweger), plot, character development, ending and cinematography. Watch this one in blu-ray!

lol?

I actually went to school with a guy who used to make crosshairs and his monitor, then make vids of him no scoping. Not saying you are, but I don't buy in to a lot of those vids.

this is so overrated. That movie's fanbase is worse than Twilight's.

All the fans just scream "pupppet!" and shatter windows and wine glasses.

oh yaaaa. I love that movie and it was one of the first I bought on blu-ray.

Kiefer Sutherland was so awesome in it. The Matrix also borrowed quite a bit from this movie. Worth watching!
